United Airlines Scandal Might Not Affect Sales
Business Insider
United Airlines is still in the throws of a major scandal, after the violent deplaning of a passenger was caught on video and went viral. Business Insider took this opportunity to entertain the notion that despite the scandal, United’s sales will not take much of a hit. United has used the simple strategy of creating monopolies over certain routes so that they cannot lose out to the competition. In support of this strategy, they purchased Continental Airlines.
Despite the clear possibility that United could make it through this scandal with their sales unscathed, Vivaldi CEO and Founder Erich Joachimsthaler believes there will still be long-term consequences: “This is not about overbooking. I think the incident is about airline bullying. We have all experienced airline bullying in one form or another. In this case, the airline bullying not only went way out of control, it also happened with an airline that has a history of real customer-service problems. It’s an issue that has come to the forefront of American travelers’ minds.”
