Google and Walmart Partner With Eye on Amazon

Google and Walmart dominate their own corners of the market, but their new partnership hopes to enter them into the race against Amazon. Now Google will start offering Walmart products through Google Express, its online shopping mall, which is the first time Walmart has made its products available outside of its own website. The union doesn’t necessarily promise success, but both companies say they are looking ahead to the future of online shopping.

Vivaldi CEO and Founder Erich Joachimsthaler spoke to The New York Times about this new partnership: “Walmart can’t lose on the low-cost proposition. But convenience, convenience that is where the game lies.” By integrating their capabilities, Google and Walmart hope to create a more convenient purchase experience for consumers. But Walmart currently sells a fraction of the products Amazon offers and Google’s online shopping platform has a fraction of the popularity. Yet the future is filled with the promise of voice shopping and the potential for consumers to buy well-priced Walmart goods with the help of their Google Assistants.
